Climbing Suilven - July 2006

A Moment of Nostalgia on the track to Suilven, 14 th July 2006 at 7.10 a.m.
“Aw, thank you Jesus, who ever you are.”
“Nae bither,” says i mannie, whoever he is.
Sunrise
Striding head on into the morning sun,
Two bulls. (But one of them’s a bullock).
Halfway up
From here there’s still a ripple on the loch.
I give myself a break and eat the chocolate.
Unforgiveable
To shift a rock
for the colour of its lichen.
Jet plane from Suilven
He really is beneath me.
On the ridge
The mountain is deceitful.
Looking down,
you know you never understood it.
Don’t fall off.
Caistel Laith 1
Climbing up the whaleback of Suilven
it comes to me I deserve
EVERYTHING.

Caistel Laith 2
I take this net onto the hill
and cast my lustful eye across
this skirt of cnocs and lochans,
over stones and rainful lichen,
yellow fungi, torn petals,
joyful things like shrines
and the distant grace of bothies.
